Hi, I'm Emily
I'm an artist, film photographer, and Certified Perinatal Doula (CPD) based in Providence, Rhode Island.
I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember and working as a doula since 2022—though I felt called to birthwork long before that. Growing up, my journey with endometriosis took me from doctor to doctor, searching for evidence-based care and meaningful support that fit my needs, preferences, lifestyle. What I truly needed was a doula—someone to inform me of my options, teach me how to advocate for myself, share resources, and provide support through my pain.
I trained in Atlanta with the fabulous Linda Herrick of the Academy of Certified Birth Educators and cut my teeth with the fantastic teams at Doulas of ATL and Embrace Refugee Birth Support, supporting parents through physiologic birth, induction, cesarean section, and VBAC. Now, I support families in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.
My work springs from my love of forging genuine connections, working and thinking on my feet, and evolving through adventure. I believe that how we live our lives has an impact far beyond what we can comprehend; that when we treat our bodies, minds, hearts, and creative impulses well, there is a positive ripple effect. I believe in quality over quantity, following your intuition, and seeking other perspectives. I think that beauty for beauty's sake matters.
I'm an advocate for long lunch breaks (preferably outside), moving when you need to move, and resting when you need to rest. Also, I don't just think you should treat others the way you want to be treated, I think you should treat yourself the way you want to be treated.
A bit more about me:
Born and raised in a suburb outside of Boston, I moved to the UK at age 18 and have been on the go ever since. I completed my BA in Anthropology & History at the University of Sussex in 2014, worked as an au pair in France the year after that, studied Graphic Design at Parsons in New York, trained as a yoga teacher at YogaPoint in India, studied herbalism at Punta Mona in Costa Rica, completed my first vipassana meditation retreat at Dhamma Patapa in Georgia...you get it. I love to learn, especially when I can really immerse myself in what I'm studying through travel.
I also love eating (locally and in season, of course), reading, learning to live more sustainably, and animals—most especially my little black spaniel, Lady. It's a daily goal of mine to engage with my body, creativity, and mind, because when I do, I get to be my best self. And I like her.
